Yesterday, a woman from East Palestine, Ohio, shared her story on TikTok about her experience trying to get a blood test for dioxin after a town hall meeting about the chemicals spilled from a train derailment. She explained that lawyers recommended that residents get a blood test for dioxin to see if it was in their blood, as this chemical has been linked to cancer, reproductive issues, and other health problems. However, when she went to the lab to get her blood drawn, she was told they no longer had the authority to perform the test.
After some research, the woman found a lab called Labcorp that could perform the test. However, when she went in for the blood work, the lab technician informed her that the test had been discontinued for some weird reason. The lab no longer had the authority to take her blood and test it for dioxins. She also discovered that Quest, another lab, was no longer doing these blood tests.

Upon further investigation, the woman found out that Labcorp and Quest have something big in common: they are both owned by BlackRock and Vanguard, two of the world’s largest investment firms. Additionally, the same companies also own Norfolk Southern, the train company responsible for the spill in East Palestine, Ohio.
It’s concerning to think that the same companies that own the labs responsible for testing for dangerous chemicals in our blood also own the train companies responsible for spilling those chemicals in the first place. It raises questions about their priorities and whether they are truly invested in public safety and health.
It’s important for individuals to be aware of this information and to advocate for their own health and safety. If you live in an area affected by a chemical spill or have concerns about exposure to dangerous chemicals, it’s crucial to do your research and seek out trustworthy sources of information. Additionally, it’s important to hold these companies accountable and demand transparency and action when it comes to public health and safety.
